Scott Smith, Oakley’s category director for Watches & 3D Optics told VM that the company will release further details about its distribution plans in Q4. He said that the Oakley 3D collection would also be featured at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas in January.

The Oakley 3D eyewear will feature “passive” polarization 3D lens technology and the company said the eyewear will feature a high-wrap curvature. Oakley is pursuing partnerships with manufacturers of home 3D systems that utilize passive polarization. This will allow consumers to use the same eyewear for home and cinema 3D entertainment.
In a related development, Oakley, Inc. has announced the upcoming debut of its new 3D eyewear, a special edition style to celebrate the release of “Tron: Legacy,” the highly-anticipated Disney 3D film opening in U.S. theaters on Dec. 17, 2010.
“The premiere of ‘Tron: Legacy’ is a great opportunity for us to introduce moviegoers to the unique innovations of Oakley 3D eyewear,” said Colin Baden, CEO of Oakley.
The new “TRON” Limited Edition 3D Gascan by Oakley are optimized for indoor cinema application and not intended for outdoor use.
