PARIS—The 2010 Silmo Optical Fair kicked off on Thursday, Sept. 23 in its new venue at the Paris Nord Villepinte exposition hall. Held from Sept. 23 to 26, and despite a strike of the Paris transit workers on the opening day, nearly 750 exhibitors were on display over the course of the four-day show.

Opening night also saw the announcement of the 2010 Silmo D’Or Award winners. Honored during an awards presentation and party held at the Pré Catelan in Paris’ Bois de Boulogne park, this year’s winners included:

• BBGR for Anateo Mio in the Vision category
• Nidek for ME 1200 in the Optician Workshop category
• Swarovski Optik for Jumelles from El Swarovision in the Low Vision/Optic Instrument category
• Logo for Frou Frou 6114 from the Barbapapa Collection in the Children category
• Logo for Automatic TAG Heuer in the POS Equipment category
• Rolf with the Giulia frame in the Optic Frame category
• Wood Optic Diffusion for the Boucheron Arabesque BES 148.03 frame in the Sunglass category
• Julbo for the RX Trem program in the Sport Equipment category

The Special Prize for "Sustainable Development" was awarded to CTS France; while special recognition for, the Silmo D’Or jury was presented to Jacques Durand Lunetier for their VW02 – Veronika Wildgruber sunglass frame.
