Keep Climbing
Countless hours of hard work and dedication go
into planning and preparing for our annual North American Meetings. Now
that our 2010 NAM is over, we’re focusing on what we have in store for
Vision Source members for the rest of the year.
If you haven’t
already heard, Vision Source doctors are exclusively listed on the Eye Doctor Locator results for a new iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch application called
EyeXam. The app includes tests for distance/near visual acuity, color perception, astigmatism, eye alignment and eye dominance. Download this app
here,
and stay tuned for updates that will make the app even better.

At the
American Optometric
Association (AOA) meeting,
Vision Source is sponsoring a reception at
Optometry’s Meeting and an AOA Presidential Party.
The Vision Source members' reception at AOA will be Friday, June 18 from 7-9 p.m. in the Osceola Ballroom C Lobby. The party honoring incoming AOA president Dr. Joe Ellis will follow immediately in the Osceola Ballroom from 9 p.m. through midnight. Entertainment will be provided by The Eye Docs of Rock. Vision Source members will receive an email invite, or they can pick up an invitation at the AOA meeting from any member of the Vision Source home office staff.

The 2010 Vision Source Experience: Breakthroughs to Peak Performance
|
Vision Source wants its programs and events to be
valuable to its members and its staff. So that’s why we incorporated
your ideas and suggestions when developing our 2010 Vision Source
Experience program. Titled “Breakthroughs to Peak Performance,” this
2010 program focuses on training and education aimed at growing top line
revenue for your practice.
So if you attended last year, be sure to come
again because this year we will feature entirely new material. For The Vision Source Experience seminar to be most effective,
all doctors and office personnel are strongly recommended to attend. Attendees will leave with
many quick-to-implement practice management strategies, and together, you can return
to your office full of motivation and enthusiasm.
|
|
The program will help you all learn how to
significantly increase your gross income when incorporating planned processes and integrating aligned Vision Source
programs. For an optometrist, providing optimum vision and medical care is paramount—but
for a practice, providing optimum business care is vital.

VSLearning.com Extends its Contract
Allergan has generously and exclusively released the entire Vision Source Learning Center to
Vision Source U.S. and Canadian practices.
VSLearning.com offers courses designed to provide
staff members continuing education in their areas of interest or expertise including clinical, contact lens, optical, patient services and business operations. There is a test at the end of each
course, and a report of results will be emailed to the doctor. We encourage you to continue to
utilize this first-class, free-of-charge resource for your practice’s ongoing staff development
efforts, and to thank your Allergan representative for their generosity and partnership with Vision
Source.
Vision Source Business Associate (VSBA) Program
Strengthen your staff members’ skills and ask them to take the challenge of becoming a VSBA.
Many Vision Source doctors have already sent their staff members through the training, and
they’ve passed the test with shining colors.
For Dr. Maurice Geldert of Roswell, N.M., the program was beneficial on many levels.
-
It provides a pathway for employees to excel who may feel “stuck.”
-
Good people need to know they are doing good work, programs such as this
provide an excellent method for measuring progress.
-
It provides another tool for doctors to assess the ability of an employee to handle
greater responsibilities (or not!).
-
The program can motivate other employees who do not wish to be left behind,
and conversely, identifies those individuals who are content to just show up.
Anthony Paz, Dr. Geldert’s optical manager and buyer, said he learned much of the information
for the test from simply working in Dr. Geldert’s Vision Source practice. But after passing, he
became more confident in the profession. “I am using what I have learned in our practice with
every patient,” he says.
Dr. Harlan Vander Griend of Paullina and Sheldon, Iowa, says, “We value continuing education
and this is another opportunity to add to one's knowledge and credentials.” And, if you were
wondering if it is worth the time and investment, Dr. Faye Andrews of Warrior, Ala., has your
answer: “You bet it was! The intangibles I attained from this are priceless! I have a happy
cohesive team!”
Essilor Provides Web-based Education
Essilor has brought to Vision Source two co-branded, web-based education programs. Both are
accessed by visiting
ECPuniversity.com. For each, there are participation costs.
New Dispenser Quick Start Program
The goal: In 20 days, a person without prior optical knowledge can
be trained to function in your optical competently and independently.
Why you should use this program: It can take months, or even years,
to learn these skills from typical on-the-job training by another busy staff member. This
professionally produced, one-hour per day program provides top-level education that covers all of the
basics, while associating an appointed mentor (from your practice) to assist when needed.
The program cost: $120 for Vision Source practices ($300 for
non-Vision Source practices)

|
Apollo for Advanced Dispensing Professionals Program
The goal: This program picks up where the New Dispenser Quick Start
Program ended, and
takes a competent optician to become an authority.
Why you should use this program: The Apollo program is composed of
55 individual short
courses, which are all approximately 15-30 minutes each in length,
which can easily be
completed when the individual has time. The program has customized
learning plans driven by
pre-assessments, and uses live workshops to transfer knowledge to
applied skill. It covers many
topics including medical/clinical, patient service and selling and
more, and it can help you cross-train your staff, serve customers better and prepare staff members
for ABO certification.
The program cost: $80 for Vision Source practices ($200 for
non-Vision Source practices)
Cindy Martin, CPO, COO, from the Canon City, Colo., office of Dr.
Sean Claflin, and two of her
staff members went through the New Dispenser Quick Start Program and
shares her experience.
“It made training so much easier for all of us and was a good
refresher for myself as well,” she says. “It’s amazing how many of those small details we forget until
we have an optical crisis!”
