IRVINE, Calif.—This year, March 12 has been designated World Glaucoma Day and Allergan (NYSE: AGN), as a leader in glaucoma medical therapies, reports it is supporting the effort, along with the many eyecare professionals and related organizations who are dedicated to combating this sight-threatening disease.

World Glaucoma Day is a global initiative spearheaded by the World Glaucoma Organization and the World Glaucoma Patient Association to raise awareness of glaucoma—the second-leading cause of blindness in the U.S. and around the world. World Glaucoma Day also emphasizes the need for regular eye examinations to encourage earlier detection and help preserve vision. On March 12, 2009, eyecare professionals, patient groups, and governments worldwide will participate in World Glaucoma Day activities.

To help ECPs maximize World Glaucoma Day involvement in their community, Allergan is offering a free, downloadable media toolkit. The toolkit includes tips and template materials to facilitate communication with local media.

This resource and many others related to the subject are available at the World Glaucoma Day Web site, www.wgday.net, or from the Allergan Web site.
