WILTON, Conn.—L’Amy America, manufacturer and distributor of sunglasses and ophthalmic frames, in partnership with Nina Ricci, Paris, is planning to relaunch the Nina Ricci sunglass worn by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and the company will use the original iconic photograph of Onassis wearing the sunglass, for which they acquired exclusive rights worldwide.

In keeping with the spirit of the original frame, the NR3203, originally created by Nina Ricci in the late ‘70s, the new piece will be designed and manufactured in France and launched in March 2009 to high-end department, optical and specialty store retailers, with a complete point-of-purchase support package.

Ms.Onassis was photographed on Jan. 30, 1978 wearing the frame during the Robert F. Kennedy Pro Celebrity Tennis Tournament. The Nina Ricci sunglass was often seen on Ms.Onassis and was part of her iconic style, L’Amy noted.

L’Amy America President Stephen Rappoport said, “We are thrilled with the opportunity to offer this authentic ‘Jackie’ model for Spring ’09. Customer and media response has been tremendous. Ms. Onassis’ legendary style has been impeccably recreated and this model definitely captures the current trends of dramatic shape and superior, oversized coverage.”

L’Amy America”s portfolio of brands includes Theory, Proenza-Schouler, Nina Ricci, Chloe, Lanvin, and Columbia. L’Amy America is part of the L’Amy Group.
