Shouldn't Lens Effective Power Be Equal to Your Prescription

Objectives:

By the end of this course, you should understand that:

1. Making eyewear that delivers the patient's prescription exactly can be complex. Understand the effects of frame fit and the way it changes lens power.
2. Learn how position of wear and refracting vertex values can be used to produce better prescriptions on-center and, especially, off-center.
3. Know how and when to make the case for a better pair of glasses i.e., meaning delivering the vision the Rx intended and how to promote that new capability.

Faculty/Editorial Board:

Mark Mattison-Shupnick, ABOM, is currently director of education for Jobson Medical Information LLC, has more than 40 years of experience as an optician, was senior staff member of SOLA International and is a frequent lecturer and trainer.

Barry Santini graduated from New York Technical College in 1975 with an AAS in Ophthalmic Dispensing. He is a New York State licensed optician with contact lens certification, is ABO-certified and was awarded an ABO Master in 1994. As sales manager for Tele Vue Optics from 1987 to 2003, Santini developed his knowledge of precision optics and has been an owner of Long Island Opticians in Seaford, N.Y., from 1996 to present. In addition, Santini is an amatuer astronomer and lecturer and plays bass trombone in the Brooklyn Symphony.
